Round review: Saints start to replicate 2021 premiership form

-

FANS were treated to a top-ofthe-table clash at the FQPL3 Darling Downs Men’s clash on the weekend.

Willowburn played host to West Wanderers on a chilly Saturday night.

Competition-leading goal scorer Ayii (Wanderers) kept the Willowburn defence busy all night and picked up a brace.

In a seesawing match, the Magpies were able to hold their nerve and edge out the

Eagles to remain undefeated and are now six points clear on top of the ladder.

In other fixtures, Rockville and Gatton shared the points on Sunday afternoon as both teams fought hard for a 1-1 draw.

Gatton’s leading goal scorer Alexander Edwards found the back of the net once again, while the Rovers goal came from their bench in substitute Dilshad Waleed.

Last time Highfields and St Albans met, Highfields claimed their first win of the season.

There was no repeat as Saints have started to find some mid-season momentum after a slow start.

They claimed their biggest win in 2022, finishing up 7-1 including a hat-trick to Riley Lobwein.

A new league leader has emerged in the competition.

Highfields recorded a convincing 10-0 win over Rockville Rubies at the Highfields Sports Complex on Sunday to take top spot on the ladder.

Willowburn’s efforts to retain top spot were halted by a fast finishing Rovers outfit, who were 2-0 down with 12 minutes to go but showed tremendous resilience and fought back to salvage a point, the match ending 2-2.

Both Hawks and USQFC make up the top four after their two wins over Highfields Green and West Wanderers at the weekend.
