Dingley shines on national stage as Paix suffers minor setback

- SEAN TEUMA

RUGBY LEAGUE: Here are the major talking points from the weekend of rugby league in the region.

DINGLEY SHINES ON BIG STAGE

We’ve seen the quality player Anna Dingley is with the Western Clydesdales and Valleys in the TRL, and she continued that form at the U19s Womens National Championships.

Picked on the wing and fullback in her two games played, Dingley was a standout, posting a hat-trick in the opener against Western Australia before backing it up with a double against Victoria.

PAIX’S UNTIMELY SETBACK

We all know how well the Broncos have been performing in 2022, and someone playing out of his skin is Toowoomba’s own Cory Paix.

He’s been incredible off the bench and has given Brisbane some quality minutes through the middle of the field.

It makes his MCL strain very untimely, and will see him on the sidelines for 4-6 weeks.

REGIONAL VENUES HELP OUT

We mentioned a few weeks ago the toll that would come with playing on grounds unfit for play, and now we’re seeing that come to life.

Pittsworth and Wattles have been forced to move their games to Milmerran and Stanthorpe respectively this weekend.

HAWKS FIRST TEAM IN

Gatton is the first side to book its Madsen-Rasmussen Final place after dismantling Wattles by 26 points.

Their season has been simply sublime to date, leading the league in points for and against to own a differential of +260, a total that is 113 points above next best.

The most feared team in the competition right now.

LATEST FINAL SCENARIOS

A spanner was thrown into the works with both Highfields and Wattles losing at the weekend.

The race for the final spot is down to three, with Highfields (+147), Wattles (+141) and Dalby (+100) all in the race.

Wattles face the easier run home out of the three, with Dalby needing to beat Gatton to keep its hopes alive.
