Magpies star De Goey under injury cloud
COLLINGWOOD star Jordan De Goey has been sent for precautionary scans after experiencing quad tightness at training as the Magpies ruled out key defender Darcy Moore for Saturday’s clash against North Melbourne.
After returning to the Magpies’ line-up last round, De Goey felt tightness early in the club’s training session on Thursday before he was sent for an examination.
The club was still awaiting the results of the scans.
It casts a cloud on De Goey’s availability for the match against the Kangaroos at the MCG.
“He (De Goey) was just a little bit tight, so we’ll just have to assess that and see where that goes,” Collingwood coach Craig McRae said.
McRae confirmed Moore would not play against the Kangaroos after he suffered bone bruising and a capsule strain to the knee last week.
After Moore avoided ligament damage, McRae said the star backman had pushed hard to play this weekend but got to about “80 per cent”.
But the Pies will welcome defensive reinforcements with Jeremy Howe set to return after missing last week’s win over the Gold Coast due to a gastro intestinal illness.
“He (Moore) won’t play this week. Credit to him, he tried to get up but he didn’t quite get through the session,” McRae said.
“So we’ll just assess that and fingers crossed he is available for next week.
“He was reasonably close, about 80 per cent if you want to put a number on it. So, we will just let him have the weekend off to get better and progress towards next week and hopefully he is available.
“(We’re) really grateful that he’s able to escape any structural or ligament damage. He is one of those players that you can’t replace. To think that he is going to be available in some form in the next coming weeks is really pleasing for us.
“The good news is Howey is available so it looks like a Howe for Moore replacement at this stage.”
De Goey returned to the Collingwood line-up for last week’s win over the Suns at Metricon Stadium.
