THE future generation of performing arts in Toowoomba have an opportunity to gain a leg up into the industry with applications open for the Empire Theatre’s 2022 Youth Bursary program.

The Empire Theatres Foundation bursary is available for people aged between 12 and 25 to help participation in professional development short courses at leading Australian performing arts institutions.

Awarded since 2010, past Empire Theatre Youth Bursary recipients have gone to prestigious institutions such as the National Institute of Dramatic Arts, the Australian Film and Television Radio School and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

A spokeswoman for Empire Theatre said each year the program offered funding for courses in a range of disciplines including dance, acting, instrumental music, singing, music theatre, film and television.

“The bursary’s aim is to assist the region’s young creative talents who demonstrate current involvement and achievement in a performing arts discipline by offering financial assistance in taking the next step that will foster or even fortify their dream of a career in the performing arts industry,” she said.

“By attending a national performing arts institutions’ development short courses, a young performer gets the opportunity to experience, train and gain insider knowledge of their chosen performing arts discipline, while giving the applicant insight into the career and work prospects their favoured discipline can offer.

“The experience of attending such courses is often a career defining moment.”

Applications are now open and close Friday August 5, 2022.
