Teen girl held in custody

- MICHAEL NOLAN

A YOUNG girl with an appalling criminal history has been remanded in custody after she was arrested in Toowoomba while behind the wheel of a stolen car.

Toowoomba Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said the 17-year-old girl had been intercepted by uniformed police on Tuesday.

Police will allege she stole fuel from at least three service stations in the past week while in possession of stolen cars.

Those offences include stealing fuel from the BP Service Station on Bridge Street while in a Holden Commodore sedan that was stolen from a Toowoomba home on July 28.

Police will also allege the girl stole fuel from the Highfields 7-Eleven while in possession of a Toyota Kluger that was stolen from a Camp Hill address in Brisbane on July 20.

“That vehicle is still outstanding and has been active in the Toowoomba area,” Sgt McCusker said.

The girl and the same Toyota Kluger were linked to the theft of fuel from the Metro Fuels servo on July 24.

She is further alleged to have had possession of a Mitsubishi 380 sedan that was stolen from a Dunmore Street home in East Toowoomba on July 25.

The girl was held in custody overnight to face the Toowoomba Childrens Court on Wednesday.

She was charged with three counts of stealing, three counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle and two counts of unlicenced driving.

The girl’s lawyer did not make an application for bail and she was remanded in custody until August 29.

In unrelated matters, police have asked the public to be on alert for a Suzuki Swift that was stolen from Brisbane on July 5 and was active in Toowoomba as recently as Tuesday night.

The alert is also for a 2012 Toyota Holden Cruze sedan (741ZAX) stolen from an Oakey home at the weekend. It was last seen on July 31 after the occupants stole fuel from a Kingsthorpe service station.
