A WOMAN has detailed the moment a naked man smashed into her windscreen while she was driving on a major Toowoomba street.
The incident occurred on James Street on Sunday afternoon.
“It all happened so quickly,” the woman said.
“I was driving home and I think I remember seeing people on the footpath, and the next minute my windscreen was smashed in.
“I was complete shock after that.
“I felt like I was going to vomit, but I couldn’t.
“My heart was racing, and thankfully there were people who came to help me pretty much straight away.”
A passer-by, who was among the first on the scene, spoke of the bizarre scene she was confronted with as she moved to assist the driver.
“I saw the car stopped in the street, and I pulled over to offer help,” she said.
“The windscreen of the car was smashed in, and I saw a naked man up the road – it’s not what you expect to see on Sunday in Toowoomba.
“My first thought was to make sure the driver was okay and I called police and ambulance who said they had received multiple calls and were on the way.
“They (police) were on the scene really quickly which was fantastic.
“I’m just glad she (the driver) was relatively okay, obviously she was really shaken up by it, but I was glad I was able to help.”
Police located the man in the driveway of a James Street home where he was “grunting and making animal noises”.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the man was in the throes of a psychotic episode and appeared to be drug affected.
Officers restrained the man after he became combative and made multiple attempts to run into traffic.
Paramedics were called to sedate the man and transport him to the Toowoomba Hospital.
