Members of Parliament are meant to represent their electorate in line with the rules of their particular political party. Their ethnic affiliation is irrelevant. The proposed VOICE is to ensure that First Nation folk have their specific needs addressed regardless of politics. The concept is not unknown elsewhere with Sami people in several Nordic countries having bodies that can influence policy.
