WHAT I AM BINGEING
Rodger Corser
This Logie-nominated actor has been one of the country’s busiest and most reliable actors for more than two decades thanks to his roles on Glitch, Doctor Doctor and Five Bedrooms. He also starred in Thai Cave Rescue for Netflix and is the host of the psychological adventure series The Traitors.
WATCHING
Doco Welcome to Wrexham (Disney+) follows Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney buying a bottom tier Welsh football side and their attempts try to restore it and Wrexham town to their glory days. You don’t have to love British football to get into this underdog story. Mind you, are you really an underdog when two Hollywood A-listers buy your team, throw you a bunch of cash and stream your story globally?
LISTENING
John August and Craig Mazin have been doing the Scriptnotes podcast “about screenwriting and things that are interesting to screenwriters” for over 10 years and I’ve probably listened to more than three quarters of the 470 episodes. They cover craft, industry, business and all the social issues that affect screenwriting and producing.
COOKING
They say when a man hits middle age he’s either into WWII documentaries or smoking meat — I chose the latter. I have a slightly rusty offset smoker in the backyard and have gone way too far down the rabbit hole about how to create the perfect brisket, ribs and pulled pork.
READING
I recently read Adam Zwar’s 12 Summers and it’s a fantastic read for both cricket tragics and normal people (maybe a slight love of cricket helps). Adam is a bloody talented actor, writer and journalist, and here he seamlessly melds the fortunes of the Aussie cricket team with monumental and formative moments of his own life over 12 summers.
