Christian Wilkins

Ambassador, model, presenter, actor, 27

- Fashion editor ANNABEL FALCO

Some wardrobes are considered and organised. Some wardrobes are chaotic and creative. Then there is the wardrobe of Melbourne Cup Carnival Ambassador Christian Wilkins, which is “camp, femme and fun”!

Anyone who references Daphne Guinness as a style muse is bound to bring some fashion action, and this particular closet does not disappoint. From Schiaparelli and “shiny” through to minidress wedding gowns and diamond-encrusted bow ties, Christian’s style is anything but conventional and certainly challenges the age-old fashion notion of “less is more”.

How would you describe your personal style?

Camp, femme, fun.

Who are your style icons?

Daphne Guinness, Luke Day, and a bit obvious, but Kim K.

What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe?

My dad’s (Richard Wilkins) bomber jacket from when he hosted MTV in the ’80s.

What are your favourite brands?

Schiaparelli, Jean Paul Gaultier, Gucci, Prada and Rick Owens.

Have you ever made a style faux pas?

ARIAs 2013, I’d just gotten back from Schoolies that morning with pink hair and feathered extensions, and wore what one man on Twitter described as an “acid baby poo coloured suit”.

What’s the most you have spent on an outfit?

Well a girl never kisses and tells but I once had the pleasure of borrowing a Cerrone diamond-encrusted bow tie for the Logies, worth over $100,000.

What is the most surprising thing in your wardrobe?

To be honest it’s pretty much as you’d think, everything is basically short, sheer and shiny.

Top three wardrobe must haves?

A structured oversized blazer, a dress that makes you feel like the Queen of the Night, and a heeled pair of boots.

What is the most sentimental item in your wardrobe?

My mum’s (Michelle Burke) mini-skirt wedding dress.

What would you buy if money was no object?

A Prada leather trench coat, a Bvlgari Serpenti necklace and a Cartier Panthere ring.

Summer or winter fashion? Summer, I loathe the cold!

Casual or cocktail? What’s casual?

Handbags or shoes? Shoes.

Is there anything in your wardrobe you have regretted throwing out?

No, but largely because I never throw anything out.

How many pairs of shoes do you own?

Despite how many I own, I only ever wear the same five on repeat, ha.

Favourite fashion era (i.e. ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s)? ’70s disco glamour everyday.
