Murder case adjourned

Defence to take stock of police evidence

- PETER HARDWICK

A 36-YEAR-OLD Goondiwindi woman charged with murder following the shooting death of Thor Morgan has had her case mentioned before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

Tina Kathleen Hazard has been held in custody since her arrest in August on charges of murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Ms Hazard was not required to be in court when the matters were mentioned on Tuesday.

Solicitor Claire Graham, of Skuse Graham Lawyers, acting as town agent for Ms Hazard’s legal representatives from Hans Legal, told the court a partial brief of evidence had been received.

Ms Graham asked for an adjournment so Hans Legal could take instructions from their client and work out what police material remained outstanding.

Police claim Ms Hazard and her co-accused, Lachlan Mark Freund, 24, tracked Thor Morgan from his girlfriend’s Harlaxton home shortly after 2am on March 15.

It is alleged Freund fired several rifle rounds at Mr Morgan as he drove along Ruthven St near Downlands College.

One of those shots allegedly hit Mr Morgan in the head.

Despite his injuries, Mr Morgan walked back to his girlfriend’s home in Harlaxton from where an ambulance was called.

Despite undergoing surgery at a Brisbane hospital, the bullet that was lodged in Mr Morgan’s brain remained in place and he died on May 15.

Police claim the white Ford Ranger the pair were accused of using at the time of the murder was later found burnt out at Felton, while the rifle allegedly used was found by police divers in the Condamine River.

Mr Freund and Ms Hazard have not been required to enter any pleas to the charges.

Magistrate Kay Ryan remanded Ms Hazard in custody and adjourned her matters for committal mention back in the same court on December 6.
