Brittany Higgins reveals big move
BRITTANY Higgins has revealed that she and fiance David Sharaz have settled down on the Gold Coast.
The former parliamentary staffer shared images of the couple’s new home on Instagram, saying that it was their “little piece of nirvana”.
“Home sweet home,” Ms Higgins captioned the post.
In February, Ms Higgins shared that she and Mr Sharaz would be moving to the Gold Coast so that she could finish her Juris Doctor at Bond University.
She graduated form Griffith University in December 2022, describing her time at university as “unconventional”. “It has been a journey, but we’re finally here,” she said on Instagram.
“My university experience has been an unconventional one, but I couldn’t be more proud to share this day with the people who helped get me here.
“Thank-you to everyone who lent their time and expertise over the years – from lecturers to professional mentors.”
Ms Higgins also shared images of the pair’s trips to the beach with their dog Kingston in tow.
She shared that the pair often visited Tallebudgera Creek, a place she described as “magic”.
Interior designers Gigi & Tom were quick to congratulate the pair on their “stunning” home after helping them with the styling process, saying Ms Higgins “styled this so beautifully”.
“Please don’t encourage her! Haha. She’s going to hold this against me forever. ‘I styled it perfectly David’,” Mr Sharaz joked in reply.
The move comes months after Ms Higgins settled her claim against the commonwealth for an undisclosed amount over allegations she was sexually assaulted in Parliament House and revealed that she would be writing a book on her experiences.
Ms Higgins accused Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann of sexually assaulting her in Linda Reynolds’ ministerial office at Parliament House after a night of drinking with colleagues in March 2019.
Mr Lehrmann, who strenuously denies having sex with Ms Higgins and pleaded not guilty to the charge, had his trial aborted due to a jury member bringing in outside research material to the jury room.
Director of Public Prosecution Shane Drumgold SC then made the decision not to prosecute Mr Lehrmann, saying he had been warned a retrial of the case would pose an unacceptable risk to Ms Higgins’ health.
“While the pursuit of justice is essential for both my office and for the community in general, the safety of a complainant in a sexual assault matter must be paramount,” he said.
“In light of the compelling independent medical opinion and balancing all factors, I have made the difficult decision that it is no longer in the public interest to pursue a prosecution at the risk of the complainant’s life,” Mr Drumgold said.
