New lots entice buyers

Pittsworth population to boom as developments ramp up

- TOM GILLESPIE

THE small town of Pittsworth looks set for an influx of hundreds of new residents, as developers ramp up plans to add another 70 residential lots to the local market.

Business partners Mark Droney and Doug Cattell have already started civil earthworks on a new 35-lot subdivision called Tuana Park on Margetts St, 18 months after they lodged plans with the council.

The pair hope to have the works finished by the end of the financial year so sealing and registering can be completed.

It continues the incredible growth of Pittsworth as a destination town for new residents, first identified by The Chronicle in 2021.

Since then, new development styles have been built and local identities like Kosta Theodosis have bought up businesses.

Mr Droney said 20 per cent of the development, which sports an average lot size of 900sq m, was already under offer after dozens of inquiries.

“We’re doing it in stages, and we’re offering stage one of 16 lots, including the original house (that was on the land),” he said.

“Out of that, we’ve got seven lots under offer.

“We’ve got a lot of other interest, we’ve got builders coming out of Toowoomba and Highfields and suggesting (clients) come out to have a look. Our blocks are being priced for what we feel are reasonable, we’re averaging about $190,000 a lot.”

Mr Droney said the project had sparked enthusiasm within the local community.

“The whole feeling is it would be so good for the town — we’re short of land (right now) and if you don’t go forward, you go backward,” he said. “We’re very excited and that’s what some of these builders have said to me, that’s why they’re heading out here.

“They believe Pittsworth is about to take off and they want to get in now.”

Hot on the pair’s heals is developer Dallas Hunter, who last week submitted plans for a different 35-lot housing estate on Colbar St.

According to a report by Property Projects Australia, the development would be delivered over three stages with lot sizes ranging between 800sq m and 1300sq m.

The project appears to be a continuation of existing residential development in Pittsworth’s northern section.
