I’m sick and tired of hearing excuses for youth offenders, citing mental health, homelessne­ss, no job etc. Do you think I did not have stress and problems in my life 60 years ago? My father died suddenly when I was nine years old, so money was scarce, home chores many, and we were really stressed out when we sat exams regularly, such as scholarshi­p and year 10 Junior.

Youth crime has been increasing because they know they can get away without harsh punishment.
