Ferrari switch looms for hamilton

-

LEWIS Hamilton is being tipped to finish his career with Ferrari in a bombshell move that will rock Formula One.

The seven-time world champion, currently driving in his 10th season with Mercedes, has made no secret of his desire to win more titles but his car continues to struggle against the top teams.

Mercedes’ era of dominance ended in 2021 when Max Verstappen snatched the title from Hamilton in controversial circumstances in Abu Dhabi and the Briton has not won a race since that season.

Now, with his contract set to expire at the end of this season, the 38-year-old has been linked with a move to a rival team. “It’s the desire of all drivers to drive for Ferrari,” Sky Sports F1 presenter Simon Lazenby said.

“In the past, Lewis has been quoted as saying he would like to drive for Ferrari. If Ferrari moves comfortably ahead of Mercedes I wouldn’t rule it out.”

Mercedes are adamant they will hold on to their man, but amid growing concerns over their car’s capabilities as well as Hamilton publicly bemoaning the team’s performance, it seems all is not well in house.

After finishing fifth in the season opener in Bahrain, Hamilton threw his team under the bus.

“Last year, I told them the issues that are with the car,” he said.

“Like, I’ve driven so many cars in my life, so I know what a car needs, I know what a car doesn’t need. And I think it’s really about accountability, it’s about owning up and saying ‘yeah, you know what, we didn’t listen to you, it’s not where it needs to be and we’ve got to work’.”

Should Hamilton decided his time with Mercedes is up, either one of Ferrari duo Charles Leclerc or Carlos Sainz could move the other way.

Neither has enjoyed the best of years with the Scuderia team with reliability and strategy issues plaguing the majority of their 2022 campaign.
