CCC gets involved in murder court case
QUEENSLAND’S Crime and Corruption Commission has been involved in the ongoing court cases of three people charged in relation to the death of Thor Morgan.
Mr Morgan was allegedly gunned down while driving on Ruthven St near Downlands College in the early hours of March 15, 2022.
The 25-year-old Mr Morgan died in a Brisbane hospital two months later.
Lachlan Mark Freund, 24, and Tina Kathleen Hazard, 36, have each been charged with murder arising from Mr Morgan’s death.
As well, 24-year-old Isobel Rose Higgins, who is believed to be the girlfriend of Mr Freund, has been charged with being an accessory after the fact of murder.
Ms Hazard and Ms Higgins’ matters were mentioned before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Thursday, March 16, with both women excused from appearing in court.
Solicitor Claire Graham, acting as town agent for Ms Hazard’s solicitors of Hans Legal, said she had been instructed to ask for a twomonth adjournment.
Ms Graham said part of the brief of evidence received by her principals had been “significantly redacted” and barrister Bob Carroll, who was briefed in the matter, would consider whether a disclosure direction would be sought.
Ms Graham told the court she believed a submission had been sent to the CCC on February 20 asking for a disclosure direction relating to the redacted material.
Ms Higgins’ solicitor Alysha Jacobsen said barrister Jessica Goldie had been briefed in her client’s matter and she would be working through the “considerable” amount of material.
Ms Jacobsen asked that her client’s matters be adjourned to the same date as co-accused Mr Freund.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Alister Windsor suggested all matters be adjourned to April 21 to keep the cases together.
Magistrate Louise Shephard therefore remanded Ms Hazard in custody and Ms Higgins on bail.
She also adjourned all matters to link up with Mr Freund’s matters back in the same court on April 21.
Mr Freund remains remanded in custody.
