What time do you wake up on a Saturday?

I love a big breakfast so I’ll typically wake up at 8am to do my morning routine and start cooking. The character of Gaston is a pretty physically demanding role so I’ll start stretching and getting my body ready for the show. I’ll try to get in at least two hours at the gym before heading into work at 1pm to start the 2pm Saturday show. We do two shows on a Saturday so it’s a big day!

Local coffee haunt? I am a massive coffee fan, my dad owned a cafe for many years, so I have to say that he makes the best coffee! When I venture out, Story Behind The Coffee in Mt Gravatt East is a favourite.

Best spot for date night?

My wife Katharine is Italian and a huge fan of The Spaghetti House Trattoria in South Bank – we love their pastas. Because we tend to have a show most nights, we don’t get many date “nights” per se but one of our favourite things to do together is escape rooms! Escape Hunt in West End is a local gem because we can do them during the day before a show and they’re right round the corner from QPAC.

Favourite takeaway? I’ll always go for pizza. Any time, any place. My go-to order is a supreme or an authentic margherita.

Favourite pub/bar to catch up with friends?

The Plough Inn near QPAC is quite nostalgic for me – back when I studied at The Con (Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University) we used to go all the time! It’s got a great vibe and excellent pizzas.

Best thing about your neighbourhood?

Growing up in Park Ridge, I used to love going to Kensington Fair Bakery – their fresh cream cinnamon donuts are the best in town!

Where and when do you exercise?

I exercise at a gym most days a few hours before the first show of the day – after all “No one’s neck’s as incredibly thick as Gaston’s”. I find the science behind callisthenics and strength training really interesting.

Best hidden treasure in Queensland?

In Brisbane, if you drive to the top of Zeehan St in Wavell Heights, you’ll catch the most incredible city views.

Favourite place to holiday in Queensland?

The Sunshine Coast, especially Noosa. Another favourite place to go back and visit is Morayfield, my wife and I were married in our friend’s gardens up there.

What’s your idea of the perfect Saturday?

If I’m not performing two shows, then it’s waking up early with a strong cup of coffee, followed by a long walk with my dog, Bailey, and some really good food with my wife and a few friends.
