Equipment lost in big shed fire
TOOWOOMBA fire investigators are working to find the cause of a shed fire at Cecil Plains that caused more than $1 million of damage to property.
Farm owners Colin and Helen Rohde spent Saturday morning inspecting the damage, with Friday night’s fire believed to have been sparked by a tractor in the shed.
Mrs Rohde said the family was grateful Mr Rohde was not in the tractor at the time.
He was working on the property on another tractor on the Warfields Branch Rd cotton farm when the fire began.
Seven fire crews from Toowoomba, Cecil Plains, Pittsworth, Oakey and Dalby worked to extinguish the blaze that destroyed a truck, tractor and other farming equipment as well as the shed itself.
A section of the roof of the 50 metre by 50 metre shed collapsed from the fire that started about 6pm.
Fire officials estimated the blaze caused about $1 million in damage.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a Cecil Plains firefighter was treated for exhaustion, minor injuries and vomiting on-scene.
The fire was fully ablaze when crews arrived and it took three hours for crews to extinguish it by 9pm, with crews remaining to dampen down the area.
Investigations are continuing. The fire is not considered suspicious.
