Orthodontist loves to create happy smiles
DEVAN Naidu loves being able to create beautiful smiles for people.
The orthodontist works at his practice called Westside Orthodontics, which specialises in braces, Invisalign and plates for children and young adults.
“Achieving a nice smile is always a life changing event for patients, which builds their confidence and self-esteem, so it’s nice to be such a positive part of a young person’s life,” he said.
“My staff and I also love seeing our patients regularly. We are blessed with such lovely patients who eventually end up becoming our best friends.
“And kids are great there’s never a dull moment. There’s always a funny story to share or something new to learn which keeps our days interesting.”
The practice opened in Hill St in 2014 and has more than 2000 patients.
Dr Naidu grew up in Toowoomba, attending St Mary’s College.
He moved to Brisbane to study dentistry, followed by orthodontics at the University of Queensland.
“I chose to return to Toowoomba to make a difference to the community,” he said.
“Growing up, my mother couldn’t afford braces for us kids so my goal was to change that and make orthodontics more accessible to families.
“Hence our practice motto is ‘to provide excellent and affordable orthodontic treatment in a friendly and caring environment’. Hopefully I’m making a difference.”
He said an average day started at 5am with a strong cup of coffee to kick off a few hours of paperwork to prepare for the day.
The practice opens at 7.30am with the before-school rush.
“Throughout the day I keep busy with consults and ‘band-ups’ where we attach braces on,” he said.
“I am lucky to be surrounded by an amazing team of support staff who help me throughout the day.”
Things wrap up at 5pm with the after-school rush.
After work, Dr Naidu is kept busy by his dog Raja.
“He keeps me busy after work demanding walks around the neighbourhood nearly every afternoon.”
He also enjoys going to
church at Humeridge and catching up with friends over breakfast.
