Good news story for pensioner

- EDITOR STEVE ETWELL steve.etwell@thechronicle.com.au

A STORY on page one today reminds us all that there are good people out there - more than we think.

Toowoomba pensioner Harold Anthony has had to rethink his views on the integrity of people after $500 cash was returned to him after he left it in an ATM machine.

Last Wednesday when Mr Anthony was drawing out cash from an ATM at Clifford Gardens he had other things on his mind.

He walked away, leaving the money in the ATM.

He rushed back to the bank fully prepared for it to have disappeared.

At 75 and retired, the loss of the money would have been a blow. It was all he had to live off for some time.

But when he returned to the bank, he was delighted to find out someone had handed it in.

His view that it is unusual these days for someone to be so trustworthy and honest is shared by many.

However, every day there are people in our community doing the right thing, and not looking for any accolades.

Mr Anthony now is looking for the person who handed the cash in so he can thank them.
