Jimbour House concert success
ELEGANCE, harmonies and history were in the air when contemporary musician Melissa Forbes performed at heritage-listed Jimbour House.
The performance was for a Regional Arts Council of Dalby concert last week.
Ms Forbes, who is a lecturer in contemporary music at the University of Southern Queensland, performed alongside her accompanist Alison Riethmuller and Dalby vocalist Jess Berwick.
Even her 10-year-old daughter Vivien Forbes performed on the viola.
Ms Forbes was pleased with how the event went and she was especially thrilled to perform at the historic Jimbour House.
“Knowing that what we play is a bit different to what a lot of people were used to, it was really exciting when the different style was well-received,” she said.
“I like that with jazz and blues you can be really creative in the moment and you’re never quite sure what’s going to happen.
“Risk taking is involved and it’s always really exciting when that risk pays off.”
Arts Council committee member Helen Gleeson said the concert featured everything from jazz standards and 1960s motown and pop right through to contemporary songs.
“I thought it went really well and the younger folk who don’t normally come along to these events seemed to really enjoy it,” she said.
“They performed a very contemporary repertoire.
“It was quite different to what we have had in the past events and it appealed to a different crowd of people, which was nice.”
