Saints open title defence with victory

-

Defending premiers Saints picked up where they left off last season with a 4-1 victory over Roosters in Toowoomba Touch men’s A grade at Kearneys Spring Sporting Complex.

The first half started at a fast pace and finished with Saints leading 3-1.

After the break the game went from one end of the field to the other with both teams prepared to throw the ball around and the only score in the second half coming from an intercept try from Saints against the run of play.

Saints were best served by Sam Carmody and Sean Albion, while Ben Choice was Roosters’ best.

In other games, Rebels Hurricanes defeated Royals 7-5 and Sharks were too strong for a new look Lions outfit winning 13-1.

Meanwhile in women’s A grade, Sharks recorded their first victory in more 12 months when they defeated Lions 6-5.

Last season the young Sharks outfit looked to be improving in each game and all that hard work showed with this victory.

In a good team effort Rebecca Mimi was judged Sharks’ best, while Elle Moss played strongly for Lions.

In other games, Australian representative Lizzie Campbell played strongly in her first game with Roosters in their convincing 10-3 victory over Saints and Fairholme had to work hard for their 6-4 victory over Rebels Hurricanes.
