Dalby makes winning start to TRL season

-

Dalby’s three big-name recruits scored tries as the Diehards got their Hutchinson Builders TRL Premiership season off to a winning start against Gatton on Saturday night.

The Diehards sat out round one with the bye but took little time to make an impact this season with a 32-8 win over Gatton at Dalby.

Highly-regarded forward and off-season acquisition Jason Wardrop made an immediate impact at his new club as he scored the first try for the Diehards in just the second minute.

Gatton playmaker Callum Woolacott hit back 10 minutes later with a try for the Hawks before Dalby ran in two more tries for a 16-4 lead at half-time.

The Diehards scored three more tries in the second half through quality recruits Steve Franciscus and Corey Blades, while Xavier Manley crossed for his second to help the hosts post a 24-point win.

Meanwhile, three late tries saw Valleys run over the top of cross-town rivals Brothers at Herb Steinohrt Oval on Saturday night.

The Roosters recorded a 40-28 win after trailing 28-22 in the second half.

In the other game on Saturday night, defending premier Pittsworth downed Wattles 30-22.
