City Batmobile leads Supanova parade

A TOOWOOMBA man led the Superhero Parade at the Supanova Pop Culture Expo at the weekend with his custom-built Batmobile.

Craig Blackburn and his sons Cameron, Shaun and Stuart built the 1989 model Batmobile from the ground up.

They started the project in June 2015 and completed it last year, but will continue tinkering with it, with plans to add pop-up guns to the bonnet and a flame thrower onto the back of the vehicle.

Sunday wasn’t the first time the custom-made vehicle has been in a parade, featuring in the Grand Central Floral Parade for the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers last year.

Mr Blackburn said Supanova on the Gold Coast was the perfect place to show off his family’s creation.

“It was great to see everyone so excited about it,” he said.

“People were amazed. At first some didn’t believe we actually made it.”

Mr Blackburn is in the process of getting the vehicle road worthy and he will then use it to visit sick children and put smiles back on their faces.
