Makeover for Christian school

- Megan Masters megan.masters@thechronicle.com.au

BACK in 2003 Glenvale Christian School opened with a handful of very simple buildings.

Over the years it grew here and there, but with a doubling of the school’s population it was time to do something big.

Yesterday students and staff were delighted to welcome dignitaries to the school for the official opening of a renovation and extension project worth more than $750,000.

Glenvale Christian School business manager Jane Strahan said the school was stoked when it received a new administration and library block as part of the Building Education Revolution, but a few years ago it had a big spike in enrolments and it was soon clear better facilities were needed.

They began looking at how to fund the expansion two years ago and managed it after receiving both State and Federal funding for the project, coupled with the school’s own fundraising efforts.

The new renovations and extensions include upgrades to the administration office, computer lab and library as well as adding a meeting room, teacher resource room, a first aid unit and additional toilets.

Air conditioning was also added and the admin area separated from the library.

“Glenvale Christian School is an independent school and in 2010 we had this building opened as part of Building Education Revolution,” she said.

“Over the years our numbers have grown and changed so we have over 100 students now whereas back then we had only 50 students.

“So as the needs of the community have changed with the staff and students, so too we needed to have extra facilities.”

She said the school worked with DJ Buckley Builders, Struxi Design and HNK Project Management to carry out the work.
