Education comes at a cost for Rita
FRIDAY at the Flicks is a series that screens classic, significant and challenging films at the University of Southern Queensland.
The most recent movie screened in the series was Educating Rita, which stared Michael Caine and Julie Walters and was released in 1983.
The film follows young wife Rita who decides to complete her education and take exams. She meets a professor who teaches her to value her own insights while still being able to beat the exams.
This education comes at a considerable cost for Rita, who finds herself moving away from the people she has been closest to towards a world that promises more than it can deliver.
The film was screened on April 21 and included a pre-screening talk to set the context and post-show drinks, nibbles and discussion. The next movie in the line-up is The Wave on May 19.
