Tribe kids dressed for simpler times

Byron label for little people won’t be influenced by others

- WITH Sally Coates

SPONTANEOUS road trips, cosying up with loved ones by a bonfire, long family dinners, weekend farm stays and kids being kids – they’re the moments that inspired Children of the Tribe’s new Slow Livin’ collection.

It’s a lifestyle choice the designer embodies. The Byron label for little people was born when corporate high-flyer Emma McLean went on maternity leave and decided to turn her hobby making children’s clothes into something more official.

“The style is a style that I embrace personally,” Emma says.

“I feel really strongly about developing a brand. To have a vision and stick with it and not be influenced by other labels or looks.” Emma describes that vision as bohemian for children, reflecting growing up in simpler times before technology took hold. “We use a lot of florals and cheetah print,” Emma says.

“I tend to work with earthy tones as well, incorporating nature in the brand and in our lifestyle.
