Aussies put off taking leave

-

AUSTRALIAN workers are among the most likely to go a full year without taking leave, yet more than half are happy with their work/life balance.

Research from Expedia finds we rank third in the world for going a full working year without a single day of holiday, behind only the United Arab Emirates and Brazil.

Two in five Australians (42%) agree holidays are crucial to their overall health and well-being and one in four (25%) say they are more easily aggravated at work when they do not get enough holiday time.

The research finds flexible work hours, the ability to work from home and more holiday time are the three most common non-monetary requests in job negotiations.

These factors combine to produce work/life balance – something more than half of Australian workers have found, 2016 SEEK Learning data reveals.

Lisa Ellis Gardens director Lisa Ellis says she did not have work/life balance when her business started but does now that it is established.

“I had a home-based office and found even though I was quite disciplined it was hard to switch off on a weekend,” she says.

“Now it’s much easier to switch off at the end of the day.”
