Whistleblowers may get rewards
WHISTLEBLOWERS who exposed corruption in big corporations would receive financial compensation potentially worth millions of dollars under new laws being considered by the Turnbull government. Minister Kelly O’Dwyer (pictured) said yesterday. Corporations would be forced to pay compensation to workers relative to their salary or a lost promotional opportunity, Fairfax Media reports. A further measure reportedly being considered would reward workers whose reports led to a successful prosecution for a fraud on the government or a breaching of securities laws. Based on a model used in the US, whistleblowers would get a percentage of the proceeds.
