WHISTLEBLO­WERS who exposed corruption in big corporatio­ns would receive financial compensati­on potentiall­y worth millions of dollars under new laws being considered by the Turnbull government. The proposal would tighten existing laws to stop the “unacceptab­le treatment” of whistleblo­wers in Australia, Finance

Minister Kelly O’Dwyer (pictured) said yesterday. Corporatio­ns would be forced to pay compensati­on to workers relative to their salary or a lost promotiona­l opportunit­y, Fairfax Media reports. A further measure reportedly being considered would reward workers whose reports led to a successful prosecutio­n for a fraud on the government or a breaching of securities laws. Based on a model used in the US, whistleblo­wers would get a percentage of the proceeds.
