Angry Aussie giant-killer’s ‘horrible’ loss
TENNIS: Thanasi Kokkinakis has delivered withering self-criticism after joining Jordan Thompson on the Queen’s Club scrapheap – two days after the biggest wins of their careers.
Triumphant over Andy Murray on Tuesday, Thompson had his chance against Sam Querrey before losing 7-6 (7-3) 3-6 6-3 at the AEGON Championships.
Wildcard Kokkinakis (pictured), bidding to back up a win over Milos Raonic, had a limp 6-2 6-2 loss to Russian Daniil Medvedev in only 59 minutes.
The performance disgusted the talented South Australian and he was in no mood to mince words in defeat.
“It was just mental. My serve and forehand are usually the things I rely on, and even those were off with the fairies somewhere,” he said.
“I don’t know what it was. I couldn’t put a ball in the court. It was horrible.
“It was like a pro playing against a toddler.”
