Wheatmen out to strike against vulnerable Emus
RUGBY UNION: Dalby will be eager to eat into Goondiwindi’s premiership lead when it welcomes the Emus to John Ritter Oval for today’s round 12 Wagners Wellcamp Risdon Cup meeting.
The second-placed Wheatmen trail undefeated Goondiwindi on the competition ladder by five points and this afternoon they look strongly placed to pounce on a below-strength Emus outfit on Dalby Old Boys Day.
Goondiwindi has six players away on senior Queensland Country Heelers duties for rounds 12 and 13 of the Risdon Cup while also supplying players to the Heelers Colts squad.
The Emus will be missing senior Heelers players Jack Cook, Will Gilbert, Harry Hawker, Jay Schulte, Lachlan Tulloch and Sam Tweedy.
Dalby has no Heelers reps this season and will be keen to redeem itself against the under-manned visitors after going down 27-10 to the
Emus at Riddles Oval in their round-two clash.
Dalby comes into today’s match after downing UQ Gatton 39-24 last weekend while Goondiwindi sat out a bye round which further strengthens its position at the top of the table.
Toowoomba Rangers have also completed its round-two bye and will be looking to leap-from USQ into third position on the ladder when it hosts UQ Gatton today at Gold Park.
The match is a pre-cursor to next Saturday’s Toowoomba Rangers Rugby Union Club Old Boys Reunion weekend clash against Dalby at Gold Park.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Rangers’ first Risdon Cup a grade premiership win in 1977 when it defeated Dalby at Gold Park.
All Old Boys, supporters and their partners are
invited to attend all or some of the activities planned for the weekend.
