FLORAL FEVER FOR CARNIVAL

Mayhem Dance Academy put on an incredible show as part of the Grand Central Floral Parade.

THERE were plenty of stars throughout the opening weekend of carnival, but the weather was probably the best of the lot.

That was the sentiment from Toowoomba Regional Council tourism and events portfolio leader Councillor Geoff McDonald.

Cr McDonald said he was thrilled with every element of the opening weekend, from having Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk open the Grand Central Floral Parade through to tickets selling out on Saturday at the Ergon Energy Food and Wine festival.

Parks were bursting with tourists bustling to look at the wonderful work done by the council’s gardening teams and business boomed at the region’s cafes and restaurants.

But even though the opening weekend was a bumper one, Cr McDonald was keen to remind residents there was plenty more action to come.

“We’re only on day three and there are still another seven days to go,” he said.

“Next weekend we’ve got the sporting polo on Saturday in the park and I think there are still some tickets even though the VIP ones have sold out.

“There are food and wine and pub walking tours and we’ve added Toowoomba Trails.”

He said among the array of tours were the Toowoomba Open House, hidden laneway tours and another on Toowoomba’s darker side.
