‘Don’t drive or else’, man told

-

A TOOWOOMBA man with a history of driving while disqualified will have to stay away from the steering wheel to avoid serving actual jail time.

Dean Michael Heit, 28, appeared before Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday to plead guilty to driving while disqualified on Goombungee-Meringandan Rd, Meringandan West, on August 25, as well as to driving on James St, Toowoomba, about 12.55pm, February 1.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Mike Robinson told the court Heit had been subject to a two year driving disqualification imposed by the court on December 6, 2016.

Heit also pleaded guilty to two counts of receiving stolen goods dating back to 2015.

The court heard Heit was a qualified carpenter in full-time work which had been difficult because he had no driver’s licence.

Magistrate Graham Lee sentenced Heit to four months in jail, wholly suspended for 15 months and disqualified him from driving for the next three years.

Heit was also fined $1500 on the 2015 receiving charges.
