Pre-polling draws in Toowoomba voters

TOOWOOMBA residents lined up to cast their vote in the upcoming state election with pre-polling booths opening in the city yesterday.

A steady stream of early voters took advantage and cast their votes early ahead of the state poll date of November 25.

And the candidates hoping to secure their nod for a seat in parliament took the chance to put their view one last time with a smaller gauntlet of supporters handing out how to vote cards at the two Toowoomba booths yesterday.

One Nation’s hopeful for Toowoomba North Paul Wilson met with voters and supporters at the Herries St pre-polling station, buffered by incumbent MP Trevor Watts who shook hands with those voting early.

The ALP’s hopeful Kerry Shine also had a small band of supporters handing out voting cards.

It was the busier booth of the two which opened in Toowoomba for the early voters.

Across town, the sitting Toowoomba South MP David Janetzki greeted a sporadic crowd at the Anzac Avenue pre-poll station.

He was buffeted by a small contingent of other candidate supporters including the ALP’s Susan Krause and backers of One Nation’s hopeful Jeremy Scamp.

Pre-polling is open from 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday until the election, except for November 24 when booths will be open until 6pm.

Voters do not need a reason to cast their ballot early, but each box must be filled in for it to be counted.

For Toowoomba North, the pre-polling booth is located at 178 Herries St in the Toowoomba City.

Across town, Toowoomba South voters can have their say at 189 Anzac Ave in Harristown.

The pre-polling station for Condamine is located at 67a & 67b Yandilla Street, Pittsworth.

If you can’t vote on election day or visit a pre-poll centre, you can apply for a postal vote until 7pm November 22.
