Suns take Giants list manager
AFL: The GWS Giants have immediately cut ties with list boss Craig Cameron (pictured) less than two weeks from the draft after learning he was poised to join a rival club.
The Giants made the shock announcement that they had “immediately commenced a process to find a replacement” for Cameron, who was appointed in May last year.
A brief GWS statement said Cameron “has indicated he wants to join the Gold Coast Suns to take up a similar role”.
The draft will be held in Sydney on November 24.
The Giants have picks 11, 27, 28, 57, 65, 85 and 93.
The experienced administrator’s previous roles include being Richmond’s football manager and Melbourne recruiting boss in more than 15 years in the AFL industry.
Poaching Cameron is part of a major off-field shake-up at the Suns that has claimed the scalps of long-time football boss Marcus Ashcroft and head of football development Matthew Lappin.
The future of Scott Clayton, who has been in charge of the Suns’ recruiting since the club joined the competition in 2011, is uncertain.
