Crossing upgrades not funded

-

THE missing piece of Toowoomba’s flood mitigation plan is still unfunded, according to Mayor Paul Antonio.

Cr Antonio used the seventh anniversary of the devastating 2011 floods to push both levels of government to support the upgrade of the West and East Creek crossings on James St.

“It was all part of the plan we prepared after the 2011 floods,” he said.

“It is part of the Warrego Hwy and we wanted some money out of the State and Federal Governments.

“We believe these crossings are critical things.

“I’ll certainly be taking every opportunity, when things return to normal, so that we can get it to happen.”

The upgrades were on the top of the Toowoomba Regional Council’s wish list during the state election campaign last year.

“Representatives from the higher levels of government in Brisbane and Canberra and opposition members have visited the creek crossings at James St and are aware of how these projects complement council’s own extensive flood mitigation work,” Cr Antonio said.

Repairs to the region’s road network from the floods were finished in 2016.
