Mates helping mates

-

A suicide awareness charity has partnered with the Pittsworth Lions Club to show how mates can look out for mates doing it tough.

Run by MATES in Construction, the MATEShip Matters event will take place at the Pittsworth Golf Club on January 24, from 5.30-8.30pm.

The event follows a highly successful tour held in August 2017 where 17 regional towns were visited over 11 days.

From construction sites in remote hospitals and distant towns, to community events in caravan parks and under the Tree of Knowledge, people came forward with sad stories, with survival stories, and with a steely resolve to do something positive about the suicide rates in the far west region.

“Since the MIC program was developed, suicide rates in the construction industry have fallen by nearly eight per cent,” MATES in Construction operations manager John Brady said.
