AN UPDATED, free bushfire preparation plan has been released by Australian Pump Industries. The new booklet takes farmers and home owners logically through the prep needed to defend properties.

Even if you plan to leave, a well-prepared home is more likely to survive and will be easier to defend. The guide shows how to prepare your home so you have substantially better protection if you are prevented from retreating.

The guide covers how to set up sprinkler systems to provide household protection and details all the basics of family fire drills, pump maintenance and selection.

The guide highlights the key questions to ask when selecting a fire pump. For example, the pump may need to draw water from a pool or dam, even if the water level is low. Not all pumps offer sufficient suction lift to achieve this.
