Help at hand for farmers

-

SOUTH Burnett Deputy Mayor Kathy Duff has announced that volunteer organisation BlazeAid will be setting up in Murgon to help with the clean-up from the Boxing Day storms.

“They are going to give a lot of support to our farmers; they’ll come and help with fencing, clean-up, building and helping the community,” Cr Duff said.

“It’s a big deal to get BlazeAid to come.

“We’ve had enough farmers register and the PCYC has offered the facility.

“The show society will allow the caravans to park in the area at the back of the PCYC and Joan Adams is co-ordinating the food.”

Cr Duff said BlazeAid worked by setting up camp in a town and then calling for volunteers to come to that camp and help out the region.

“There will also be a call-out if anyone in our community wants to join BlazeAid and help in our community,” she said.

“They’re saying they’ll be here by January 13.

“They’ll arrive, set up and start helping farmers the following week.”

Cr Duff said BlazeAid had previously visited the region during the 2010/11 and the 2013 floods.

She said they weren’t just about the physical property repair, but also helping farmers mentally get through disasters.
