ANZAC DAY COVERAGE

-

SHOPPING centres around Toowoomba will remain closed for Anzac Day as a mark of respect.

Anzac Day is our national day of remembrance and independent shops must wait until 1pm to start trading, unless they are exempt.

Exempt shops include chemists, petrol stations, restaurants, cafes, small grocery stores and takeaway outlets.

There are also different laws for those with liquor licences.

Places of public amusement such as the cinemas are not permitted to open until 1.30pm, so if you are hoping to catch a movie you’ll have to wait with Event Cinemas not showing any movies until 1.45pm.

Grand Central Shopping Centre, Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre and Toowoomba Plaza will be closed all day.

However, some stores with street access will be operating.

At Grand Central Guzman y Gomez, Betty’s Burgers, Schnitz, Sushi Machi and Vapiano will be open from 11am.

At Toowoomba Plaza Zarraffa’s Coffee and Nandos will operate.

Urban food precinct Walton Stores will open from 11am.

You can raise your glasses to our fallen heroes at at Fitzy’s, The Spotted Cow, Muller Bros, The Shamrock Hotel, The Office, and The National Hotel from noon.

Generally, pubs around town can serve alcohol from 10am but only if accompanying a meal.

The Chronicle put a call out on Facebook asking business owners to share with us their opening hours.

If you want a coffee Jillys Cafe is open for business, as is Cafe 63 and The Finch.

IGA at the Hooper Centre is open if you need some groceries.

Highfields Pioneer Village is also open for visitors from 10am to 4pm.
