RACING: Unplaced Weetwood Handicap runner Choice Bro heads weights for Saturday’s Open Handicap (1000m) when racing returns to Dalby’s Bunya Park.

The 2015 Weetwood winner finished well back in this year’s race earlier this month while on the comeback trail.

He’s been allotted 63.5kg for Saturday’s assignment where he’ll look to add to his Bunya Park victory last month when resuming with 63kg in the Lightning Handicap (800m).

Saturday’s feature heads an eight-race Dalby & Northern Downs Jockey Club card with Clifford Park racing in recess this week ahead of it’s midweek metropolitan-class meeting next Wednesday.

Dalby racing starts at 12.28. In Queensland Winter Carnival news Toowoomba gelding Amanaat faces a race against time to regain full health for a crack at this year’s plum events.

This month’s Weetwood winner suffered a serious jaw injury in a barrier incident which led to him being declared a non-runner in Saturday’s Ascot Handicap at Doomben.

“He obviously won’t be racing soon but the end of the carnival is two months away, so who knows,” trainer Ben Currie told AAP.

Toowoomba mare Our Beebee will be aimed at Saturday week’s Listed Silk Stocking (1200m) at the Gold Coast following her fifth placing in the Ascot.

Stewards reported Our Beebee was held up on the home turn before finishing 31⁄2 length behind stable mate In His Stride who continued his return to top form for trainer Rex Lipp in the $100,000 Listed feature.

■ THIS afternoon’s country Anzac Day meetings includes a Cunnamulla & District Diggers Race Club card jumping at 1.30 and five events at Wondai with the South Burnett Race Club meeting starting at 1.45.
