BOWLS NOTES

-

Barooga Sports

The rain has upset the bowls this past week and is likely to also upset the bowling programs further this week.

No medley pairs were able to be played with the forecast of rain last Tuesday so the decision was made to call it off.

Trade day at Finley RSC was called off on the Thursday after the greens received a decent soaking and therefore considered unfit and there must be some doubt as to whether Numurkah Town will be able to hold their trade day this week with the forecast of further rain.

Keith’s Friday was held in fine cloudy weather and we had 48 bowlers eager to get the cobwebs out of their system.

Winners of the day were the combination of Garry Murnane and Dulcie Barnes with +24 with Neville Walsh and Geoff Brentnall second on +21.

Best first game winners were Faye Neale and Bob Bamford with +6 and best second game winners were Mary Hoog and Alan Nichols with +11 and eight ends from Eric Barns and Peter Buller also on +11 but with seven ends.

The jackpot did not go off and will be worth $113 this week so get your name in for a social game of three-bowl draw for partners pairs this Friday.

Rain also stopped the playing of a practice match against Corowa on Sunday, stopping us from enjoying a serious work out in pennant format.

This makes this weekend’s practice match against Hill Top an important workout starting at 11 am.

Teams are selected from those who had their name down and listed below.

Don’t forget opening day on Sunday starting at 2 pm followed by a casserole tea which is sure to be a special feed.

First pennant round will be on October 8, which is one week after the AFL grand final so it is not far away.

Teams for practice match against Hill Top starting at 11 am sharp, 21 ends straight through with eats afterwards: J. Sullivan, R. Wright, V. Toohey, G. Ryan (s); E. Saunders, M. Burnett, S.
