Pitching role calls to red carpet stars

Johannes Schoch THE stars came out to play when P.J. Hogan, Anthony LaPaglia, Rebecca Gibney and some of the cast from Mental walked the long red carpet at Jupiters Hotel on Sunday night. Having the walk of fame through the foyer of the hotel was a masterstroke because hotel and casino patrons added to the buzz by lining up along the velvet rope to see what all the fuss was about – the premiere of Mental.

At the premiere, CC decided to ask anyone who wandered in front of us what movie role they would most like to play. Mayor Tom Tate: ‘‘Anything with Arnold Schwarzenegger. He ended up as the Governator so I could be the Taternator. If not that, then Rhett Butler in Gone With The Wind . . . Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn!’’

That sounded civic policy.

Former premier Peter Beattie: ‘‘Pretty obvious really, Marlon Brando as Don Corleone in The Godfather.’’

He followed that with his famous mega-watt grin.

Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey: ‘‘Hmm! I’ll say Pollyanna, no, I’ll change it to Cher in Moonstruck.’’

Pollyanna, the endlessly positive little girl who finds a reason to be glad in everything? Really?

Waters-Massey WHO: Sheridan Brodie (pictured left). WHERE: On the red carpet at Jupiters for the premiere of Mental. WHAT DID SHE WEAR: A Bettina Liano white lace dress with nude patent leather Wittner shoes and Mimco jewellery.

Jordan Smith and Steph Gumm WHICH FASHION ICONS: ‘‘Two designers stand out for me. The first is Jessie Rutherford who is local, and overseas it would be Alexander McQueen. My favourite celebrity is Australian actress Isabel Lucas who has a fresh look that I like. If I had to describe my own style it

Lucy Fry, Ivy Latimer and Gemma Forsyth.

Actress Rebecca Gibney: ‘‘ To be 100 per cent honest it would be this role in Mental. I fought so hard for so long to get this that it really is my dream role.’’

Writer/director P.J. Hogan: ‘‘No matter what part I chose I know I would make an absolute mess of it. I’ll leave all that for the actors who know what they are doing.’’

Actor Anthony LaPaglia: ‘‘For me it’s not a movie but my role as a father to my daughter Bridget. She is the thing that I am most proud of in my life.’’ Aaaah!

But the award for the oddest answer went to Greedy Smith, lead singer with Mental As Anything: ‘‘Buster Keaton had this great part in the 1966 movie A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Basically he ran all over Rome, up and down the hills. I’d love that part.’’ Wonderful stuff! would be boho-chic, casual and understated but elegant.’’ WHY: Among all the big names, wouldbes and wannabes, this young realtor from Ray White Surfers Paradise stood out because of her simple elegance and impeccable grooming.
