Naomi’s out for a shot at big time
MOVE aside Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham, and meet cinema’s new action star: Gold Coast’s knifewielding and gun-slinging Naomi Karpati.
Low-budget Gold Coast film Agent Provocateur won three awards at last week’s Action on Film International Film Festival in Los Angeles, including Karpati’s Female Action Performer of the Year gong.
The Gold Coast-shot Agent Provocateur also won best in show and best foreign film, beating out big-budget Sofia starring Christian Slater and Donald Sutherland.
‘‘All the big-budget films we were up against, we didn’t expect anything,’’ Karpati said. ‘‘All the hard work has paid off. ‘‘Everything has happened so quickly.
‘‘The whole journey exciting and magical.’’
Director and co-writer James Richards said Karpati stood out because she did her own stunts, including a car-bonnet roll, three fight scenes and a high-action foot-chase.
Karpati, a part-time personal trainer at Sanctuary Cove, came to the Gold Coast five years ago from Hungary and started training with Richards at his school Wise Force Chinese Boxing.
Karpati, 26, has already received several Los Angeles film offers but her priority is to make Richards’ next movie, which could go into production in the next couple of months.
The cast of Agent Provocateur will be at a special film night at the Gold Coast Arts Centre tonight.
