Bridges set for repairs
THIRTEEN bridges across the Gold Coast are in need of repairs, according to an asset management plan released to Gold Coast City Council.
The City Infrastructure Committee yesterday signed off on a $48 million plan to upgrade infrastructure such as bridges, beach stairs, gutters and culverts in the next year.
The upgrades include 13 bridges which were judged to be in a poor condition.
Council’s director of city infrastructure Alton Twine said the poor rating was not a reflection of safety.
“It refers to age, appearance and minor works which have been identified as needing to be addressed in coming years,” he said.
The bridges include those on Chardon Bridge Rd, Sunshine Blvd and Thrower Drive.
