Arundel property has a sporty look

-

A VACANT Arundel property that has been the subject of three sale campaigns is earmarked for a sports and recreation centre.

The 1.34ha parcel is at 61 Newheath Drive, in the Gaven Central Business Park, and is held by Westlink Place, a company associated with Property Solutions Group directors Kevin Miller and David Blanck.

A warehouse building was recently approved for the site and company Property Solutions Services is now seeking approval for it to host a sports and recreation centre with a food and drink outlet.

An application to Gold Coast council says the building will host four courts suitable for cricket and netball that will share an area of 1950sq m.

Storage and office space will account for an additional 229sq m and the development will feature car parking facilities in place of heavy vehicle manoeuvring areas.

Westlink Place has held the site since mid-2007, a high point for the property market ahead of the global financial crisis.

It acquired the holding for $6.269 million from Gaven Central Business Park developer Newheath, a company associated with Paul Dostal and John Anning.

Soon after purchase, an application was lodged to develop on the site an industrial building with 6212sq m of floorspace that could accommodate three large tenancies.

The project did not proceed and an initial bid to divest the property came in September 2008, when the financial crisis was impacting on the Australian property market and its broader economy.

A second bid was launched in April 2011 and a third in April 2015 when the property was the subject of an application for a 32-unit project.

Projects undertaken by Property Solutions Group include the Motorway Business Park, at Ormeau, and the Access Business Park, at Yatala.

The group is the purchaser of the Southport site that was home to the former Gold Coast Hospital, whose buildings have been demolished.

It has gained approval to split the 3.4ha site in to three blocks and plans an $800 million development that will include a multistorey retirement facility, healthcare services, retail outlets and apartments.

Sites will measure 16,828sq m, 5276sq m and 10,522sq m.
