James urges club to hang on to McQueen
TITANS co-captain Ryan James has appealed for the club to retain Chris McQueen as Wests Tigers prepare to table a $1.2 million deal for the former Origin forward.
The Gold Coast are in serious danger of losing McQueen, who faces sacrificing more than $600,000 unless the Titans urgently up the ante at the negotiating table.
McQueen had a positive meeting with Wests Tigers coach Jason Taylor and football operations chief Kelly Egan on Wednesday. The Tigers did not table a formal offer but discussed a threeyear deal worth at least $400,000 a season.
The million-dollar package dwarfs that tabled by the Titans, who have offered a one-year deal with a one-year option for the 2019 season.
At 29, McQueen is seeking security and the Tigers are prepared to provide it as the premiership-winning forward mulls over the most important contract of his career.
The Titans have already offloaded back-rower Zeb Taia.
