Titans try two more

Copley, Vidot in double debut as fans wait for Grevsmuhl

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

DALE Copley and Daniel Vidot will this weekend become the latest men to don Titans colours but Gold Coast fans will have to wait to see recruit Chris Grevsmuhl in action.

The pair will become the eighth and ninth players to make their club debuts for the depleted club on Saturday night, providing valuable cover at a time when veteran William Zillman will rejoin the injury ward for at least a couple of weeks with a right calf issue.

Again the Titans were unable to name 21 fit players for their squad.

Coach Neil Henry labelled rookie forward Morgan Boyle not a viable option given that concussion has ruled him out of the past two rounds.

Henry said last week that Lawton was the best part of a month away from returning due to a shoulder injury.

Copley would have played against Parramatta last week but for the NRL’s refusal to grant him an exemption to be a late inclusion.

The 25-year-old will line up at left centre, finally allowing Chris McQueen to return to the second-row and letting teen prop Max King slide back to under-20s.

Copley’s former Brisbane teammate Vidot is set to line up outside him on the left, keeping Konrad Hurrell and Tyronne Roberts-Davis on the right.

The 110kg winger last played in Gold Coast’s preseason trial against the Warriors in Palmerston North.

“He will have to come into some training (today) but all indications are he will be right to play,” Henry said of Vidot.

Tyler Cornish and Tyrone Roberts both trained yesterday despite midgame scares against the Eels.

Hurrell, who hurt his ankle in the closing minutes of the Eels match, missed yesterday’s session but is expected to train today and pull up fine to take on North Queensland.

Grevsmuhl missed the 21man squad altogether, having only signed on Monday.

Henry gave no timeline for when the 24-year-old former Queensland Emerging Origin squad member will debut.

“He hasn’t done a preseason. He’ll need a bit of training,” he said.
