Vidotron to the rescue
WITH an injury crisis threatening their fledgling season the Titans desperately need a hero – and here he is. Meet Vidotron, aka Daniel Vidot, whose mission is to eliminate the Cowboys at Cbus Super Stadium on Saturday night. The hulking winger has given up booze and fast food, stripped 13kg from his frame and taken up meditation. One thing he hasn’t given up is a burning desire to one day forge a career as a professional wrestler in the WWE.
THE Titans will unleash “The Vidotron’’ on the Cowboys, with winger Daniel Vidot declaring he will go into Saturday night’s clash in the best shape of his career.
A booze-free lifestyle, meditation and a diet stripped of junk food has Vidot physically and mentally primed as he prepares for the NRL comeback he never envisaged.
When Vidot quit the Broncos two years ago, the 27-yearold thought he had seen the last of the NRL. He had plans to sightsee through Europe while playing at English club Salford. He also yearned for a wrestling career in the WWE.
Amid bouts of homesickness in England, Vidot fielded a call from the Titans.
In five months he has slashed 13kg from his frame. Once a monstrous 121kg, Vidot is taut and trim at 108kg.
“A short-time pain is a lifetime gain, so I’ve just pushed through it and made sacrifices,” said Vidot.
“I haven’t been this fit ever. I lowered my carb intake, stopped eating takeaways and I hired a dietitian. I stopped drinking alcohol, I just wanted to get my body right again.
“I want to get back to being myself and be ‘The Vidotron’.”
The self-styled nickname can be traced to Vidot’s love of video games and the moniker has stuck at Titans training.
His other love is wrestling. After leaving the Broncos, Vidot flew to America to trial for a professional wrestling contract at the WWE highperformance centre in Florida.
Vidot was told he had the size, athleticism and charm to make it in the WWE and admits he still wants to pursue it.
“That is still in my plans,” he said. “I just want to focus on football first and look at WWE when I retire. I definitely haven’t given up on that.”
