Secret of cheeseburger stays in the melting pot

A GOLD Coast eatery is spruiking a meal that melts before you put it in your mouth.

Lester and Earl at Palm Beach has come up with a concept where customers pour melted cheese over a burger.

“It’s 100 per cent cheese – tasty cheese, gruyere and American red cheese – we’ve just figured out a secret way to keep it melted,” owner John Dunlea said.

“The little mason jars we bring out have about 200-250ml of melted cheese to go over the top.

“It’s definitely not something you’d eat every day but it’s part of the fun.

“I’ve seen people go at it with two hands, they just pick it up and go for it then clean up afterwards,” he said.

“I wouldn’t think it’s a first-date burger. The funny thing is, people might think it’s a bloke’s thing but a lot of girls are going for it.

“Funnily enough there’s never much mess for us to clean up, people mop up all the cheese themselves.”

Diners can add cheese to any burger on the menu and there will be more cheese options in the future.

“You can order any burger and choose to add the sauce but the most popular has been our Juicy Lucy: two beef patties, caramelised onion and three slices of cheese,” Mr Dunlea said.
