New Titan Copley sees glass half full

- – EMMA GREENWOOD

DALE Copley says he tried not to think of the sliding doors moment when he could have opted for a Titans contract last season instead of signing with the faltering Roosters.

Pushed out of the Brisbane Broncos by the arrival of former Titans centre James Roberts, Copley was desperately searching for a new club when the Roosters came knocking.

But Titans coach Neil Henry also made an 11th hour appeal, one new Gold Coast player Copley conceded came just too late.

“I did speak to Neil before I joined the Roosters but I was way down the track with negotiations with the Roosters, so it was just one of those things where I was scrambling for a club and it just came too late,’’ he said.

But being out of favour at Bondi, Copley was happy to head to the Titans and finally gets a guernsey on Saturday night after a frustrating week as the “test-case’’ for the NRL’s new team listing rules.

The Roosters finished 15th last season with Copley playing 14 games in a season hampered by injury.

But he said he tried not to dwell on his decision to leave Queensland as he watched the Titans push to the NRL finals.

“When I make a decision I just try and roll with it otherwise you’d question every decision you made in your life, whether it’s football or your private life,’’ he said.

He conceded being forced out of two clubs in two years could have shaken him.

“It’s been tough in terms of timing,’’ he said.
